We are delighted to welcome David Murphy from University College Cork as a keynote speaker for SENSE XR 2026.

David Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at UCC. He is also the founder and head of the MAVRIC Lab, Programme Director for the MSc in Interactive Media, and Chair of the IEEE Consumer Technology Society Human Machine Interaction Technical Committee.

His work sits between interactive media, sensing technologies, human-computer interaction, and extended reality. Across his research, David has contributed to projects that explore how XR systems can be designed and evaluated for real-world use, including applications in healthcare, therapy, learning, and immersive user experience.

His recent work includes research connected to virtual reality therapy, anxiety prediction using biosensors in VR, immersive cognitive testing, and XR-based healthcare education. These areas make his perspective especially relevant to the SENSE XR community, where sensing, embodiment, interaction design, and practical impact are central themes.

In his keynote, David Murphy will speak about sensor-based technologies and XR, focusing on how sensing systems can be meaningfully integrated into immersive experiences to support richer interaction, better measurement, and more effective application design. His talk will be particularly valuable for researchers and practitioners interested in how XR can move beyond visual immersion alone and make fuller use of physiological, behavioural, and contextual sensing.
